Bripka Syamsuddin, a member of the Bagops Polres Manggarai, goes the extra mile to ensure that children in his area in Cuncalawar, Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, can attend school without financial constraints. Syamsuddin, together with his wife Rini Mulyasari, has established two tuition-free schools for orphans and underprivileged children.
In 2019, under the foundation Yayasan Fii Sabilillah, they built MIS Deen Assalam and Daraudhatul Athfal Deen Assalam. Syamsuddin’s motivation stems from his own experience of losing his father during high school, which almost led him to drop out. He didn’t want the orphaned children around him to face a similar situation.
-
Sacrifices for Education: Syamsuddin funds the schools’ operational costs by allocating his salary, even resorting to mortgaging his house’s certificate. Despite insufficient income, he uses his salary, work bonuses, and the house certificate to cover expenses.
-
Financial Struggles: At one point, Syamsuddin and Rini offered their house for sale to ensure the schools could continue operating. Rini, acknowledging her husband’s dedication, accepts a monthly allowance of IDR 200,000 to cover bank debts.
-
Continued Support: Despite the financial challenges, both remain dedicated. Rini supplements their income by selling cakes and sometimes hesitates to take her allowance due to its small amount.
-
Recognition and Hope: Rini expresses pride in her husband’s commitment, and Syamsuddin vows to persist in supporting the schools. Kapolres Manggarai AKBP Edwin Saleh commends Syamsuddin’s efforts and hopes he will have the opportunity to pursue further education, encouraging him to join the police academy.
Through his unwavering dedication to education, Syamsuddin sets an inspiring example of selflessness and compassion within the community.
